As Chief Investment Officer, Rocktop Technologies, Jason Vinar leads its subsidiary, Rocktop Capital Advisors, with responsibility for MSR valuation, hedge advisory, and trading, and for setting the strategic direction of the business as it scales.
He came to Rocktop from Two Harbors Investment Corp., where he served as Chief Operating Officer. He was previously the firm’s Managing Director and Head of MSR Investments and Operations. In that role, he led the $25-million-plus earnings-accretive acquisition and integration of RoundPoint Mortgage Servicing, guiding the transaction from initial board presentation through integration of a 500-plus-person platform servicing roughly one million loans. He actively managed the servicing portfolio through purchases, targeted sales and swaps to shape the portfolio composition.
Earlier, at Two Harbors’ external manager, Pine River Capital Management, Vinar built and scaled the firm’s MSR investment business into a top-10 GSE servicer, growing the portfolio to more than $163 billion in unpaid principal balance and $1.3 billion in market value. Subsequently, as part of Two Harbors, he grew the portfolio to more than $230 billon in UPB and over $3 billion in market value while leading a 35-person oversight team.
For nearly a decade he has also served as a lecturer in the University of Minnesota’s Master of Financial Mathematics program, teaching graduate courses in mortgage-backed securities, derivatives, and volatility modeling.
He holds an M.S. in Financial Mathematics from the University of Minnesota and a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire.
